GOSPEL ARTISTES WIN BIG AT AGMMA 2018 IN LONDON

Artistes from across the world gather in London for AGMMA 2018 to celebrate excellence.

Once again, London was ‘awash’ on Saturday the 2nd of June with accomplished and aspiring African and diasporan gospel artists at this year’s spectacular African Gospel Music and Media Awards held at the East London Arts and Music.

The evening started with a red carpet VIP reception with guests networking during press interviews followed by the main event which was hosted by Premier Gospel Radio’s drivetime host Lady Tolu. The night opened in typical African fashion with energetic praise and worship led by Benjamin Qusi and Michael Pounds.

Interspersing the various awards of the night were electrifying performances by Afriy David, Ccippo, Grace Balafonte Shekinah Sings, Uniek Grace, Calledout Music, Isabella, Diana Hamilton, Judith Sephuma, Sammie Okposo and Joe Mettle

The highlight of the night was a collaboration of Sammie Okposo and Joe Mettle on stage, who incidentally were the joint winners of the ‘song of excellence’ category; Sammie winning with ‘Marvelous Thing’ and Joe Mettle with ‘Bonooni’.

Top winners of the night were Joe Mettle who won in the ‘Male artiste of Excellence’ category and ‘Song of excellence’ categories and Sammie Okposo who won in the ‘Song of Excellence category and in the special category of the ‘Trailblazer’ award.

Other winners included Emmanuel Smith, Diana Hamilton, Pompi, Muyiwa Olanrewaju and Dr Tumi, Mercy Masika, Cassi Kalala Jesse Morgan and Nikki Laoye who won a  Community Award for her charitable services in Nigeria.

For the first time, AGMMA also awarded the Heritage award to 6 distinguished gospel industry figures who have contributed to the development and promotion of music within the African-Caribbean community and gone further to bridge the gap between the African and Caribean communities through their activities in music and media (AGMMA winner list is attached).

They are John Fisher, O’Neal Dennis, Roy Francis, Juliet Fletcher, Dave P and Noel Robinson. AGMMA will be broadcast across various TV networks on dates to be confirmed.
