CHAT WITH ISABELLA MELODIES: I CONSIDER MYSELF A SONG RECEIVER THAN A SONGWRITER

After enlisting Greenwox and teasing its release, Isabella Melodies made her new single free for download.

Before "Rain On Me" dropped, her resume read eight gospel albums, so we caught up with the "multiple award winning recording artist" to chat about gospel music, inspiration, collaborations and innovation.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: How would you describe your kind of music?

ISABELLA: Most of my songs are Praise and Worship

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: Who inspires you musically?

ISABELLA: I couldn’t name any specific person cos I get inspired to write songs by anything and everything really (laughs). I love ballads so I grew up listening to a lot of love songs. Mostly my love for God and the Holy Spirit inspires me but also my relationships, revelations and life experiences.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: Which local or foreign gospel artists do you look up to?

ISABELLA: One of my mentors whose worship ministry radically enriched and transformed my worship experience is an American worship leader named Terry MacAlmon. I’ve also been under the mentorship of Dr Ron Kenoly.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: Is there anyone in the gospel circuit you would like to collaborate with this year (2018)?

ISABELLA: I’m sure collaborations will come at the right time but I haven’t actually thought about it as yet.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: What songs are on your music playlist at the moment?

ISABELLA: Love Bethel Music, Hillsong, Soul Survivor and from Africa I have so many of my favourites. Honestly I consider myself very favoured to be Nigerian because we are very blessed to have some of the most gifted people in the world.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: What is your innovative process for creating a music track?

ISABELLA: My heart, head and mind is filled with melodies and love songs to the Lord so I hardly ever set out to consciously write songs or make music. I consider myself more of a song receiver than a songwriter really.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: What’s more important, gospel melody or lyrics?

ISABELLA: I think both have their place in music but really what sets gospel songs apart is not the melody but the lyrics and the heart from where those lyrics/melodies flow from. Those are definitely more important than lyrics.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: What song/album/collabo are you currently working on?

ISABELLA: I just recently released a double album (in November 2017) so I’m not looking to release an album in 2018. However I am working on two other singles with the same producer that produced Rain On Me.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: What do you do to relax when not on the move/ministering?

ISABELLA: I read a lot and I love going to the gym to work out. Both help me relax. I also love going to the spa for treatments/massage.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: What piece of advice do you have for new or aspiring musicians what would it be?

ISABELLA: As I always say, know who your boss is and be focused on what He has called you to do. Don’t get distracted or discouraged by the noise around you. Listen to advise, get a mentor, learn as much as you can but never allow any of those to replace or overshadow the voice of the Holy Spirit. You can never go wrong obeying Him.

7GOSPELTRACKS.COM: Is there anything else you’d like the readers to know about?

ISABELLA:The new single, Rain On Me is out on 28th February. My 7th and 8th albums which were released a few months ago are all available for download from my website (www.isabellamelodies.co.uk). I am also very active on Social media so feel free to contact me.
