The New Testament was initially written in Aramaic [a language spoken by Jesus] before it was translated into ancient Greek and then Latin.

Many Christians are familiar with The Lord` Prayer, but on Wednesday night, Pope Francis called for a better translation of the phrase, "and lead us not into temptation" - one taken from the teaching account of Jesus on prayer according to the Gospel of Matthew.

In an interview with Italian TV, Pope said, "lead us not into temptation" is not a good translation, because God does not lead humans to sin.

"Do not let me fall into temptation because it is I who fall," he continues.

"It is not God who throws me into temptation and then sees how I fell."

He then proposed a replacing phrase, "do not let us fall into temptation."
