Four days ago, the winner of "Gospel Choir of the Year 2017" was announced on BBC One Programme: Songs Of Praise.
The five choirs that made it to the final at Westminster Central Hall were the LCCM Choir, the Oxford Gospel Events Choir, Royal Voices, Singology Choir and The Big Sing.
The road to the final were lined with hurdles: first, the choirs needed to submit two live video recordings to enter the competition, followed by a shortlisting process, then the narrowing down of the groups to a few hundred with five groups making the cut to the live show and a winner chosen by judges.
Speaking of the judges, we had renowned personalities like Seal [4-time Grammy awards winner], Muyiwa Olarewaju [a British Gospel singer/songwriter] and Karen Gibson [award-winning conductor/workshop leader].
This year`s competition lived up to expectation with eventual winner, "The Big Sing", performing "Souled Out" [a song made popular by Hezekiah Walker & LFC] and going home with the much coveted trophy.
“When we got to the final we were so happy we were down to the last five and we just wanted to be on the show and enjoy ourselves," said Francis.
But now, "we feel amazing having won and we are on cloud nine. It is a massive honour for us," she added.
"The Big Sing" was founded in Witham by Gemma Francis and her husband, Howard in 2011, and has grown to a 250 member choir.
