Voké comes to us with yet another uplifting, soul searching song titled "Create In Me", her first single after her artist name change from Vorkay. "After much contemplation, I decided to change my stage name from Vorkay to my own name with its original spelling - Voké - which means there is time for everything.
Voké has had an amazing couple of months since December 2021 when she released her Christmas Time single, co-writing with and featuring Arinola, her friend and fellow church and choir member. The single helped promote more awareness about the Christmas Lunch on Jesus initiative by Jesus House to help those in need at Christmas.
Following on from that, Voké was privileged to work with an amazing set of songwriters for the church's (Jesus House) Pursuit of God conference this spring and they released an uplifting single titled "The Altar" - co-writing with other Jesus House choir - Tribe of Judah(TOJ) members.
Voké tells us that this song - Create In Me; was written over 20 years ago while at Uni, recorded and produced about 5 years ago, but only now felt the release to put it out to the world. "I've held onto this song for so long. Wanting for it to be perfect but I feel like this is the right time to let it go. Sometimes, perfect can be the enemy of good."
I'm in a season where I have been checking out the state of my heart with regards to every area of my life including my family, my marriage, my children, my calling and why I really do the things I do. While this wasn't planned but purely a coincidence, I had thought of finally putting this song out in July but had some delays along the way.
It turns out that at my local church, Jesus House, we are currently on a series on "The Heart" and we have been looking introspectively at the state of our hearts, the health of our heart and I found myself reflecting on the lyrics of this song which is simply David's prayer for God to create in him a clean heart so that he could do God's will God's way (paraphrased).
I want listeners to be able to echo the words of this prayer back to God to say Create in me a pure heart O God, and renew a steadfast spirit in me. That the joy of our salvation be renewed; that joy we had when we first came to know Christ and the love God has for us. Not just serving from a place of dryness.
