UGCY is back and this choir festival is going to be special!
University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) is back after a two-year break due to the pandemic and looking to have a wild thanksgiving celebration of all things choir. With 9 university choirs from across the UK joining in for a special event - the Uni Gospel Choir Festival on the 2nd of April at Oasis House, Croydon, this looks set to be the choir event of the year! And, to ensure this happens, UGCY has teamed up with leading national platform AStepFWD which run the UK Christian Charts and many other incredible initiatives.
The night will feature a fantastic line-up of choirs such as:
Kent Gospel Choir (University of Kent)
Durham University Gospel Choir (Durham University)
Portsmouth Gospel Choir (University of Portsmouth)
Warwick Gospel Choir (University of Warwick)
VOCE Gospel (University College London)
Kings Gospel Society (Kings College London)
Keele University Gospel Choir (Keele University)
United Herts Gospel Choir (University of Hertfordshire)
Brighton Sound of Zion Choir (University of Sussex and Brighton)
Host for the evening is none other than the well-loved comedy writer and Premier Gospel presenter Cassandra Maria. Special guest will be MOBO Award-winning Volney Morgan & New Ye, who were the headline act at the Step FWD Awards - the UK’s definitive Christian & Gospel music awards last November.
UGCY was founded in 2011 and continues to provide a prestigious top-tier platform for University Gospel Choirs across the UK. The annual UGCY competitions provide university gospel choirs with a platform to develop and showcase their musical abilities, whilst nurturing an atmospheric community environment. UGCY returns to normal programming in 2023 and choirs are already gearing up for that too.
UGCY founder Lorraine Wright, who was recently presented with her MBE for services to young people through music said, “After a challenging past 2 years for choirs, we are excited to make a comeback in the form of this celebratory festival in partnership with A Step FWD. With UGCY now in its 10th year of activities and having so many choirs coming together, this will be a very special event indeed.“
